GTA6 Planes and Helicopters: Leonida's Aerial Vehicle Line-Up
Leonida has a vast coastline, the Keys, swamps and mountains, so aerial vehicles play a bigger role in GTA6 than in previous games. Rockstar hasn't published a full official list yet, but two trailers, official screenshots and the Extended Look confirm the existence of several planes and helicopters. What follows is an overview of the visible aerial line-up based on released material.

Leonida has a vast coastline, the Keys, swamps and mountains, so aerial vehicles play a bigger role in GTA6 than in previous games. Rockstar hasn’t published a full official list yet, but two trailers, official screenshots and the Extended Look confirm the existence of several planes and helicopters. What follows is an overview of the visible aerial line-up based on released material.
Helicopters: The Most Common Way into the Air
Helicopters appear most often in the trailers, covering civilian, police and attack roles.
Confirmed models include:
- Nagasaki Buzzard (attack helicopter)
Based on the MD Helicopters AH-6 Little Bird. It appears in Trailer 2 with a clear weapons fit, and is expected at high wanted levels or in specific missions.
- Buckingham Maverick
A classic series model returns, in both civilian and police versions (Police Maverick). Visible in Trailer 1 and screenshots, it is the backbone of Vice City police air power.
- Sea Sparrow
A light helicopter with water landing capability. It appears several times in trailers and screenshots, well suited to fast movement around the Keys and coastal areas.
- Buckingham SuperVolito
A medium-to-large multirole helicopter based on the Eurocopter EC145, visible in the background of Trailer 1.
- Other visible models
The Buckingham Swift, Valkyrie and others also appear in the material, rounding out civilian and special-purpose options.
Police helicopters are active in pursuit sequences, and with the new wanted system, aerial tracking will be a major threat when you’re on the run.

Fixed-Wing Aircraft: From Seaplanes to Jets
Fixed-wing aircraft are relatively few in number but cover a wider range of types.
Confirmed or highly visible models:
- Mammoth Dodo (seaplane)
Based on the de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver. It appears repeatedly in trailers and screenshots, can take off from and land on water, and is ideal for linking the Keys with the mainland.
- Blimp
Clearly visible in official screenshots, the series’ classic entertainment vehicle returns, suited to low-altitude sightseeing and special missions.
- Private jet (similar to the Luxor / Shamal)
A jet can be seen flying past the Vice City sign in screenshots, continuing the series’ tradition of luxury private aircraft.
- Light propeller planes
These include models similar to the Mammatus and Duster, suited to short hops and rural airfields.
- Large airliners
A jet airliner resembling a Boeing 747 appears in the background, mostly for atmosphere; whether players can fly it is still unconfirmed.
The return of the seaplane matters especially. The geography of the Leonida Keys makes water-capable aircraft like the Dodo a practical choice rather than a collector’s item.

Matching Aerial Vehicles to the Map
| Area | Primary Vehicles | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City urban core | Maverick, Buzzard | Police patrol, fast movement |
| Leonida Keys | Sea Sparrow, Dodo | Island-to-island travel, water takeoff and landing |
| Grassrivers / mountains | Light helicopters, propeller planes | Low-altitude scouting, reaching remote areas |
| High wanted level | Buzzard (attack variant) | Armed intervention and pursuit |
Comparison with Previous Games
| Category | GTA5 | GTA6 (confirmed) |
|---|---|---|
| Attack helicopters | Buzzard and others | Buzzard returns and is improved |
| Seaplanes | Dodo and others | Dodo confirmed to return, better fit for the geography |
| Police helicopters | Yes | Multiple models, tied to the new wanted system |
| Blimp | Yes | Confirmed return |
| Overall importance | Support transport | Sharply increased by the map’s waterways and islands |
Flight Handling and System Expectations
Though detailed handling data isn’t public yet, the Extended Look and trailers show:
- Helicopters interacting more naturally with buildings and billboards when flying low over the city.
- Smoother animation and physics for water takeoffs and landings.
- Police helicopters making more aggressive use of searchlights and firepower during pursuits, depending on the wanted level.
Combined with the new wanted system (which tracks clothing, faces and vehicles), aerial vehicles are both an escape tool and a possible tracking target.
Design Intent
A Florida-style geography means aerial vehicles are no longer just a showpiece option. The scattered islands of the Keys, the difficulty of crossing the swamps and the density of Vice City’s buildings all make helicopters and seaplanes efficient ways to get around. By bringing back classic models (Buzzard, Maverick, Dodo, Sea Sparrow) and adding police variants, Rockstar makes sure aerial play feels familiar while fitting the new map’s needs.

Summary
GTA6’s planes and helicopters are built around practicality and variety. The attack-focused Buzzard, the police Maverick, the water-capable Sea Sparrow and Dodo, plus the blimp and private jets, form a complete aerial network spanning city, islands, swamps and high altitude.
After launch, players will see for themselves that in Leonida, the sky matters as much as the sea and land. Whether flying the Dodo island-hopping through the Keys or taking a Buzzard into a high wanted-level pursuit, aerial vehicles will be a key part of exploration and crime. The full list and performance data will be revealed when the game launches on November 19, 2026.
