GTA6 Crime Types: The Full Spectrum from Street Robberies to a Statewide Conspiracy
GTA6's crime system is the most layered and systematic upgrade the series has seen. It is no longer just “steal a car and shoot it out”; it folds street-level jobs, professional robberies, smuggling networks, and large-scale criminal conspiracies into an interconnected crime economy. As Jason and Lucia, players can act alone or divide the work, and the way each crime is committed affects the Criminal Profile and how the world responds.

GTA6’s crime system is the most layered and systematic upgrade the series has seen.
A Five-Tier Freestyle Robbery System
Officials and the trailers have already laid out multiple robbery tiers:
1. Local store robberies
Convenience stores, phone repair shops, payday loan outlets, and the like. These targets are usually not marked on the map, and players can walk in and try their luck. The payout is low (a few thousand dollars), but the risk is relatively manageable. Stealth is supported (for example, using a Snap Gun to pick a back door), and you can also go in hard.
2. Jewelry stores and higher-value shops
Security is tighter, possibly with cameras and a safe. More preparation is needed, and the payout rises significantly.
3. Bank robberies
The trailer already showed walking into a bank armed and controlling hostages. This is a medium-to-high risk, high-reward operation, and police respond faster and in a more organized way.
4. Armored cash trucks / mini heists
These target moving objectives and put the emphasis on timing and interception skills.
5. Gang compounds and complexes
The highest tier of freestyle robbery, where targets may hold drugs, guns, and large amounts of cash. Some locations are exclusive to the Ultimate Edition.
These robberies can be done solo or with two people. With two, one can handle driving or keeping watch while the other works inside, and switching characters becomes a key part of the gameplay.

Other Core Crime Types
Vehicle theft and fencing
After stealing a car, players must sell it to a specialized car fence according to its condition. Undamaged vehicles fetch a higher price. Newer cars may require a key cloner, while older ones can be handled by smashing a window or picking the lock.
Smuggling and drugs
Jason’s background is closely tied to Brian Heder, a veteran smuggler in the Keys region. Drug pickups, transport, and distribution form a major criminal thread, and may involve boats, speedboats, and hidden routes.
Bodyguard and protection work
The trailer featured jobs providing security for wealthy clients, from private jets to high-end parties, where crime and work on the edge of the “legal” world intertwine.
Gang conflicts and complex raids
Operations targeting specific gang strongholds, which can yield contraband and special goods.
Street and Opportunistic Crime
Low-level crimes such as mugging, brawling, and extortion are still in the game, but they build up wanted levels and Criminal Profile effects faster.
The Crime Economy and Fencing System
GTA6 splits money into three categories:
- Bank account funds (managed through the BuckMe app, relatively safe)
- Cash (can be lost on death and needs to be deposited at an ATM)
- Loot (carried in bags and must be sold to the matching fence to turn into money)
Different loot goes to different fences: jewelry, vehicles, and other contraband each have their own channels. That means “grab it and run” is no longer enough; players have to plan their fencing routes and manage the risk.

Criminal Profile and the Consequences of Behavior
The all-new Criminal Profile system records players’ criminal style:
- Efficient, with few innocent casualties → a more “professional” rating
- Indiscriminate killing and excessive violence → a stronger “violent/psycho” leaning
It does not track good-versus-evil morality; it measures how professional you are as a criminal. Sustained behavior changes how the world reacts to the characters and may affect the direction of the story. Small acts such as petting dogs or feeding stray animals can also nudge it in a positive direction.
The wanted system has been upgraded alongside it: police note appearance, clothing, and vehicles, and even whether the two are traveling together. Changing clothes and splitting up to flee become important tactics.
The Distinct Advantage of Two-Protagonist Co-op
Jason and Lucia can divide the work within the same crime:
- One drives and covers, the other shoots
- One infiltrates, the other supports from the outside
- Real-time switching between the two
This design turns crime from a “solo performance” into a “two-person act,” and the relationship system shifts depending on success or failure.

What It Means for the Design
GTA6’s crime types genuinely systematize “open-world crime.” Players are no longer just completing fixed missions; they push the story forward, build resources, and shape their characters through ongoing criminal activity with consequences. Money becomes a threshold for advancing the narrative, pushing players to take part in robberies and fencing rather than relying on the main story alone.
The system keeps the signature chaos and fun of GTA while adding strategy, division of labor, and long-term consequences, giving every crime more weight.

Summary
GTA6’s crime types span street-level jobs, professional robberies, smuggling, vehicle theft, and gang conflicts, forming a complete spectrum from low to high. Combined with two-protagonist co-op, a multi-layered money system, and the Criminal Profile, crime is no longer a repeated action but core gameplay with strategy, risk, and memory.
After launch, players will experience this for real: in Leonida, every robbery can change how police see you, every fencing deal matters for survival, and your chemistry with your partner decides whether an operation succeeds. On November 19, 2026, this richest crime system yet goes live.
